About This Project

July 2025 on a two-story in League City's 77573. League City requires a permit and inspection for re-roofs, and this one passed on the first visit.

The plan is a hip roof; a front gable and a brick chimney break up the slopes. The work: strip to the deck, then new flashing, new boots and vents, and a charcoal laminate with capped hips.

League City is inside the Texas windstorm zone, so the roof was nailed to the high-wind pattern with the heavier drip edge the standard calls for. The inspection checks exactly that.

One thing the League City permit office checks that homeowners rarely think about is the starter course. The windstorm code wants a sealed starter strip along every eave and rake, not shingles turned upside down, because the starter is what the first course bonds to in a 100 mph gust. We use a manufactured starter on every certified roof, and the inspector on this job pulled a tab at the rake to confirm it.

Eight photos show the ridge, the chimney and the slopes.
