About This Project
The tear-off on this 77064 home found a second layer of shingles under the first, which is common on Houston houses that were re-roofed once in the 1990s and never since. Both layers came off to the deck before the new roof went on in March 2026.
The replacement is a gray laminate with new pipe boots and a fresh ridge. The backyard shed was shingled to match so the two roofs read as one.
A second layer is not just extra weight. It hides the condition of the deck, traps heat between the two roofs and voids most shingle warranties, which is why a layover is never something we recommend. The tear-off here added a few hours and one extra trailer load, and the new roof sits on a deck we could actually inspect.
Photos show the roof mid-install with bundles staged on the ridge, the finished slopes and the matching shed.
