About This Project
A one-story home on Macquarie Drive in Katy 77449, replaced in November 2024 with Weathered Wood architectural shingles. The old roof was a three-tab that had been patched more than once, and the crew found rotten decking under the worst of the patches once the tear-off was done.
Every soft section of decking was cut back to solid wood and replaced, the old plastic turtle vents were swapped for aluminum ones that will not crack in the Texas sun, and the chimney was re-flashed. The ridge was capped with matching Weathered Wood caps along the main peak and the hips.
The rooftop photos show the chimney and front slope, the main ridge and valley, and the box vents on the rear hip. North Katy has a lot of 1990s three-tab roofs reaching this point, and most of them are hiding some decking damage by the time they get replaced.
