About This Project
June 2024 on a one-story in Sugar Land's 77479. The original measurement on this roof was five squares short, which only became clear when an aerial report was pulled and the pitches were added in. The order was corrected before the build.
This is a hip-roofed house with a front gable and a brick chimney. The replacement itself covered new flashing, new boots and vents, a driftwood laminate and capped hips.
A five-square miss on a one-story is a lot, and it is why we now pull an aerial report on every roof over twenty squares. Hand measurements are fine for a simple gable; a hip roof with four pitches needs the report.
Pitch is the number that most often gets missed on a hand measurement. A roof that looks like a 6/12 from the ground can be an 8/12 on the back slopes, and the difference is ten percent more shingle. The aerial report on this house gave each slope its own pitch, which is how the five missing squares were found.
Five photos show the house and the finished roof.
