About This Project
June 2024 on a two-story in Sugar Land's 77479. The homeowner changed the shingle to CertainTeed Resawn Shake, a textured brown with a wood-shake profile, and had the gutters, window beads and the garage door replaced in the same project.
The roof is a steep hip-and-gable hip with a brick chimney. Scope was a complete tear-off with new flashing, new boots and vents, capped hips and ridge.
Resawn Shake is a heavier shingle with a deeper shadow line and it suits the Tudor-influenced brick on this house. It is not a common pick but it is the right one here.
Window beads are the small wood strips that hold a window pane in its frame, and they rot from the bottom when a gutter overflows above them. Replacing them while the gutter crew was on site cost almost nothing and saved the homeowner a separate carpenter visit. It is the kind of item we add to a scope when we see it rather than leaving it for later.
Six photos show the house, the garage and the finished roof.
