About This Project

A one-story home on Apache Falls Drive in Katy with white lap siding, a brick chimney and a low-pitch hip roof, replaced in June 2024 with a gray architectural shingle. At 29 squares it is a typical ranch-style Katy roof, and the low pitch meant the crew could strip, dry-in and shingle it in a single day.

Tear-off turned up three sections of soft decking that were cut out and replaced before the underlayment went down, and the brick chimney got new step and counter flashing let into the mortar joints. Five other flashing points around the roof were replaced rather than resealed.

The photos are the walk-around after cleanup: rear elevation with the long bank of windows, the chimney side, and the front over the garage. A new roof on a house this age is mostly about what you cannot see once the shingles are on, which is why we photograph the flashing work as we go.
