About This Project

July 2024 on a two-story in Houston's 77019, between River Oaks and Montrose, in CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex Moire Black. ClimateFlex is the impact-resistant version of Landmark, which is worth the upcharge in a hail market.

The roof got twenty pieces of ridge vent, which is a very long run for a house in this neighborhood and reflects how much ridge the hip-and-gable design has.

A black roof on a 1930s two-story works because the house has tall attic space and the ridge vent keeps it moving. On a low attic we would steer a homeowner toward a lighter color.

Eight photos show the ridge vent, the black shingle and the house.
