About This Project

This Houston roof is a good example of what a tear-off can uncover. Once the old shingles came off, the crew found rotted decking around almost every penetration: the bathroom exhaust, the plumbing stacks, and a section along the eave where water had been getting under the shingles for years. The first photos show what that looks like from the roof, with the damaged plywood cut out and the rafters exposed.

Every soft section was cut back to solid wood and replaced with new decking before any underlayment went down. That step is not optional, but it is the one that gets skipped when a roofer quotes low and then does not want to come back to the homeowner about what they found. We photograph the damage, show it to the owner the same day, and replace it.

The finished roof is a charcoal architectural shingle with new flashing at every penetration. The last two photos show the completed slopes under the tree canopy at the back of the house.
