Roof Replacement on Britterige St in Houston, TX

About This Project

A one-story brick ranch in the Bear Creek area of Houston, 77084, replaced in July 2024. At 34 squares this was a big single-story roof with long, low slopes that let the crew finish the tear-off and dry-in in one morning.

Five sections of decking had gone soft and were cut out and replaced before underlayment. The brick chimney got new counter flashing cut into the mortar, and four more counter flashings went in where the roof meets brick walls. Forty-five feet of gutter was replaced along the rear eave once the shingles were on.

The decking on this house was original plywood, and the five bad sheets were all under old pipe boots and at the eave over the garage, which is the pattern we see on Bear Creek roofs from this era. Counter flashing was cut into the mortar joints rather than surface-sealed, so it will hold through the next roof as well as this one.
